On the first Saturday of each month, the Hands-On Science Center hosts a Star Viewing Party on the lawn beside the Goethert Observatory. Volunteer astronomers will be on hand to show us the wonders of the night sky through extra large telescopes.
This is a FREE FAMILY FUN NIGHT!
Don’t miss it!
When: Check back in March for the next date!
Where: The Hands-On Science Center
Time: Arrive and set up your chairs a few minutes before dark!
What to bring? Your lawn chairs or blankets, and a smile on your face, ready for a stellar family evening of fun and learning!
Billy Hix, professor at Motlow College and dedicated amateur astronomer, will conduct this program. He is a member of several professional astronomy groups and also is a member of the Von Braun Astronomical Society, and enjoys sharing his expertise with the community.
After a short show on a famous astronomer, we’ll hear about current events in the astronomical community. Then it’s on to a planetarium program, using the stars above our heads. Enjoy learning some of the constellations in the night sky and interesting facts about the stars that we see! After the program, you’re invited to look through the huge telescope in our observatory, as well as other telescopes… how cool is that?!
If it’s raining, the event will be cancelled until next month’s Star Night (remember, this is an outside program). You can always call the Hands-On Science Center at (931) 455-8387 for details.
News Update
HOSC Star Parties were recently featured in a 3 page spread in the Astronomical Society magazine, “The Reflector”. Come see why we’re gaining so much attention.
